Helping users quickly with their computer issues

We use Fog Creek's Copilot application to help our remote business and home clients who need immediate attention with their computer problems. There is nothing to configure—even if your computer is behind a firewall. all you do is accept an invitation via e-mail to allow us to connect and then download a very small helper file.

Copilot is secured by 128-bit SSL encryption and as long as you have a decent internet connection, we can send you an e-mail and after you accept the invitation, tech+help can assist you remotely. Our users in remote offices love this service.

For more ongoing support, tech+help recommends using Timbuktu Pro. A copy of Timbuktu can reside on home computer and access your work PC. No special version of Timbuktu Pro cross-platform remote control software is needed to control a Windows computer with your Mac, or a Mac computer from Windows — all it takes is a copy of Timbuktu Pro on each computer.

For larger deployments, we usually setup up an ongoing Virtual Private Tunnel (VPN) to your network and server. Then using Apple Remote Desktop on Mac OS X servers and Terminal Services on Windows Servers, tech+help can check your network and backups and perform basic troubleshooting without actually being on the premises.
